What is depression?

Depression is a mood disorder of a person. Some symptoms of depression are : long periods of sadness , demoralization , low self-esteem , loss of appetite , weight loss , sleep disturbance, etc ...
 
This is a fairly common disease that affects nearly 350 million people although most of these cases are short periods of time which are not treated as a disease.
 
The causes of depression are varied but many of the cases are due to high levels of a hormone called cortisol which can be high by inheritance. Other causes are deep emotional losses , etc ...

 
The symptoms of depression are :
  
- Insomnia or hypersomnia
  
- Increased capacity of fatigue, or loss of usual vitality .
  
- Loss or lack of interest in previously pleasurable activities
  
- Decreased appetite
  
Loss of self-esteem and self confidence . Unjustified inferiority extended in time
  
- Loss or lack of interest in previously pleasurable activities
  
- Thoughts of suicide , including attempts
  
- Feelings of worthlessness
  
- Decreased concentration and thought. Usually accompanied by procrastination.

Generally , depression is treated with pharmacological treatment of depression , although 38 % of patients treated in this way show no result in a period of 6-12 weeks and in 54% of patients there is no remission of symptoms
